Funeral For The Food System

St James Garlickhythe Garlick Hill London EC4V 2AF

About this Event

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of the Food System. Please join us for the funeral during London Climate Action Week.

Our food system is no longer fit for purpose. The system has evolved into something incredibly extractive and inequitable, which attempts to feed us, yet it does not nourish us, or the planet that we live on. There is a lot we love about our food system, but structurally it has been sick for a while. We have held onto the fact that if we come up with ‘the right solution’, we can fix it all, and we can save it. Our focus has been on curing our food system and mending the pieces that were broken. While we have focused our efforts here, we have been unable to see beyond this. We have been unable to imagine what a new healthy, regenerative system could look like…

Sadly, following this long, drawn-out illness, the food system has finally died.

We need to take this time to remember all that was good and all that was bad about it, in order to properly mourn it.

And then we can approach things differently – taking the opportunity to reimagine the future of our food system in a new way without the underlying sickness holding back our imagination, innovation and direction.

We want to be able to reimagine the future of our food system in a new way, with fresh eyes and fresh ideas.

The Funeral for the Food System will start promptly at 13:00, and will be followed by a wake. Space is limited, so all attendees will need to register.

Funeral attire is encouraged.

Memories of the Food System and hopes for the future can be shared using #RIPFoodSystem.
