About this Event

Food and Climate at Local Level: From Mapping to Policy

This event, co-sponsored by the Food Foundation and Climate:Change, the independent think-tank in Brighton and Hove, will explore how the carbon footprint of the food system can be mapped at town and City level in the UK, and how mapping can be used to improve policy. The London footprint has been mapped, by Circle Economy for Re-London. How can that piece of work be improved and used? And how can the effort be downscaled for use in other places. Building on conversations already held in Brighton and Hove, and no doubt also taking place elsewhere, this workshop will bring together food footprint and food policy specialists from around the UK. Places are limited and must be booked in advance. There will be an informal reception after the workshop.

The speakers will be:

Kristin Strandberg, Cities Lead, Circle Economy

Hamish Forbes, Senior Analyst, WRAP

Leon Ballin, Place-Based Food Systems Manager, Food Foundation

James Joughin, Food lead, Climate:Change

The event will be chaired by Simon Maxwell, Co-Chair, Climate:Change

The Food Foundation and Climate:Change

The Food Foundation is a registered charity working in partnership with researchers, campaigners, community bodies, industry, Government and citizens to galvanise the UK’s diverse agents of change. Its vision is a sustainable food system which delivers health and wellbeing for all.

Climate:Change is an independent, non-party-political, and non-partisan think-tank on climate change in Brighton and Hove.
Its purpose is to bring together researchers, policymakers, operational specialists, businesses, and local organizations, to examine options, identify priorities and build consensus around innovative and socially inclusive climate change solutions – as well as the policies needed locally and nationally to deliver them.
